| THE SUBMITTED CALCULATIONS FROM SUNCOAST ARCHITECTURE & |
| ENGINEERING: |
| (B) THE UNITS OF MEASURE HAVE NOW BEEN CLARIFIED. THE |
| VALUES FOR "ALLOWABLE STRESS DUE TO BENDING" AND |
| "ALLOWABLE STRESS DUE TO COMPRESSION" STATED ON PAGES 1 |
| AND 2 OF THE "ENGINEERING CALCULATIONS" APPEAR TOO HIGH |
| FOR 6061T6 ALUMINUM. PLEASE STATE THE SOURCE OF THE |
| STATED ALLOWABLE STRESS VALUES. |
| (E) THE COMMENT RESPONSE LETTER STATES THAT THE MOMENT |
| DISTRIBUTION CALCULATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO SHOW |
| THAT USING THE SUM OF THE MOMENTS ON EACH BEAM SEGEMENT |
| IS A CONSERVATIVE APPROACH. THE LATTER IS NOT A TYPICAL |
| METHOD OF ANALYSIS, SO THE MOMENT DISTRIBUTION |
| CALCULATION IS VERY RELEVANT. THE DIAGRAMS ON PAGE 3 |
| AND 7 OF THE "MOMENT DISTRIBUTION CALCULATION" |
| CORRECTLY SHOW THAT JOINT 1 IS THE CONNECTION TO THE |
| HOST STRUCTURE. THAT CONNECTION IS SHOWN IN DETAIL |
| G/A-3 OF THE PROJECT PLANS A PINNED CONNECTION WHICH IS |
| TYPICAL. AS SUCH THE CONNECTION DOES NOT AND SHOULD NOT |
| TRANSFER MOMENT TO THE HOST STRUCTURE. THAT IS A FACT |
| THAT IS NOT RECOGNIZED OR CORRECTLY MODELLED IN MOMENT |
| DISTRIBUTION CHART ON PAGE 5 OF THE CALCULATIONS, WHICH |
| CLAIMS A 717 FT # (OR 8.6 KP IN.) MOMENT AT THAT |
| CONNECTION. THE MOMENT AT THAT PINNED CONNECTION SHOULD |
| BE ZERO WHICH MEANS THAT THE STATED 753 FT # MOMENT AT |
| THE OTHER END OF THAT SECTION OF THE BEAM IS |
| SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERESTIMATED WHICH IN TURN MEANS THAT |
| THE SPAN MOMENTS ON THE BEAM ARE ALSO SIGNIFICANTLY |
| UNDERESTIMATED. THEREFORE MOMENT DISTRIBUTION |
| CALCULATION AS IT STANDS DOES NOT CLEARLY SHOW THAT |
| USING THE SUM OF THE MOMENTS ON EACH BEAM SEGEMENT IS A |
| CONSERVATIVE APPROACH. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS. |
