 REVIEW COMMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT
  
 I. GENERAL
 IN ADDITION TO THE FLORIDA BUILDING CODE, THE FIRE
 PROTECTION AND LIFE SAFETY DESIGN SHALL CONFORM TO THE
 2010 EDITION OF THE FLORIDA FIRE PREVENTION CODE (2009
 EDITION OF NFPA 1 AND NFPA 101 WITH FLORIDA
 AMENDMENTS).
  
 ENGINEERED FIRE ALARM AND FIRE SPRINKLER CONSTRUCTION
 DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR A GENERAL BUILDING PERMIT.
 AFTER THE BUILDING PERMIT HAS BEEN ISSUED, THE
 SUBCONTRACTORS CAN THEN SUBMIT SHOP DRAWINGS
 (CONFORMING TO THE ENGINEERED CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS)
 FOR A SUB-PERMIT. SEPARATE PLANS AND PERMITS ARE
 REQUIRED FOR THE MODIFICATION OF THE FIRE SPRINKLER
 SYSTEM AND FIRE ALARM SYSTEM.
  
 ALL CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WORK SHALL CONFORM TO
 THE REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 241. TRASH AND CONSTRUCTION
 DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE SITE DAILY.
  
 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS SHALL REMAIN ACTIVE DURING
 DEMOLITION AND RENOVATION ACTIVITIES. IN THE EVENT A
 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM IS OUT OF SERVICE FOR MORE THAN
 4-HOURS IN A 24-HOUR PERIOD, THE BUILDING SHALL BE
 PLACED UNDER A FIRE WATCH. ALL FIRE WATCH REQUESTS MUST
 BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING AND APPROVED BY THE OFFICE OF
 THE FIRE MARSHAL LOCATED AT 500 NORTH DIXIE HIGHWAY.
  
 PROVIDE AN EXTERIOR KEY SAFE TO ALLOW EMERGENCY
 RESPONDERS NON-FORCIBLE ENTRY INTO THE BUILDING DURING
 NON-BUSINESS HOURS. A KEY SAFE CAN BE ORDERED FROM
 WWW.KNOXBOX.COM.
  
 PROVIDE BUILDING ADDRESS VISIBLE FROM THE STREET.
 NUMBERS SHALL BE ATTACHED TO THE BUILDING AND BE AT
 LEAST SIX-INCHES IN HEIGHT WITH 1-INCH STROKE AND SHALL
 CONTRAST THE BACKGROUND.
  
 EVERY ASSEMBLY OCCUPANCY ROOM NOT HAVING FIXED SEATS
 SHALL HAVE THE OCCUPANT LOAD OF THE ROOM POSTED IN A
 CONSPICUOUS PLACE NEAR THE MAIN EXIT FROM THE ROOM.
 SIGNS SHALL BE DURABLE AND INDICATE THE NUMBER OF
 OCCUPANTS PERMITTED FOR EACH ROOM.
  
 PROVIDE TACTILE SIGNAGE AT ALL REQUIRED EXIT DOORS WITH
 EXIT SIGNS.
  
 FOR OCCUPANCIES WITH AN OCCUPANT LOAD OF 100 OR MORE
 PERSONS, PANIC HARDWARE SHALL BE PROVIDED ON DOORS TO
 RELEASE THE LOCK/LATCH. NO OTHER LOCKS OR LATCHES ARE
 PERMITTED THAT WOULD NOT BE RELEASED BY THE PANIC
 HARDWARE. AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR PANIC HARDWARE, THE MAIN
 ENTRANCE, AND MAIN ENTRANCE ONLY, IS PERMITTED TO HAVE
 AN INTERIOR KEYED DOOR LOCK (AND NO LATCH) WITH A
 READILY VISIBLE SIGN STATING THIS DOOR TO REMAIN
 UNLOCKED WHEN THE BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. SIGN LETTERS
 SHALL BE AT LEAST 1 INCH IN HEIGHT. A THUMB TURN STYLE
 LOCK IS NOT PERMITTED TO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR A KEYED
 LOCK.
  
 PENETRATIONS INTO THE PROTECTED STAIR ENCLOSURES ARE
 LIMITED TO EQUIPMENT ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE
 STAIR. THE CURRENT MEP DRAWINGS SHOW DRAIN LINES, COLD
 WATER LINES, ELECTRICAL LINES ETC. THAT WILL NOT BE
 PERMITTED.
  
 EACH SMOKE OR FIRE-RATED WALL/PARTITION SHALL BE
 PERMANENTLY IDENTIFIED WITH SIGNS OR STENCILING READING
 FIRE/SMOKE BARRIER-PROTECT ALL OPENINGS. CHARACTERS
 SHALL BE AT LEAST 4-INCHES IN HEIGHT AND HALF-INCH IN
 WIDTH. IDENTIFICATION SHALL BE SPACED NOT MORE THAN 15
 FEET ON CENTER.
  
 PENETRATIONS THROUGH A FIRE-RATED WALL ASSEMBLY SHALL
 BE PROTECTED BY A FIRESTOP SYSTEM OR DEVICE.
  
 II. BASEMENT
 THE TWO BASEMENT STAIR DOORS SHOULD HAVE A 1-HOUR FIRE
 RATING IN LIEU OF 45-MINUTES PER TABLE 8.3.4.2 (NFPA
 101).
  
 OPENINGS INTO A STAIR ENCLOSURE ARE LIMITED TO NORMALLY
 OCCUPIED SPACES; HOWEVER, SECTION 7.1.3.2.1[8][B] (NFPA
 101) PERMITS MECHANICAL ROOMS PROVIDED THE SPACE DOES
 NOT CONTAIN FUEL-FIRE EQUIPMENT OR STORAGE OF
 COMBUSTIBLES. NO EXEMPTION IS MADE FOR ELECTRICAL
 ROOMS.
  
 FOR STAIR #113, THE ENTIRE AREA ON THE LEVEL OF
 DISCHARGE SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM AREAS BELOW BY A
 1-HOUR FIRE RESISTANCE RATING PER SECTION 7.7.2.6 (NFPA
 101).
  
 INDICATE THE SIGNAGE AND COMMUNCATION SYSTEM THAT WILL
 BE PROVIDED FOR THE AREA OF REFUGE.
  
 INDICATE THE REFRIGERANT AND THE NUMBER OF POUNDS
 ASSOCIATED WITH THE WALK-IN BEER COOLER.
  
 III. SECOND FLOOR
 THE SECOND FLOOR REQUIRES TWO FIRE-RATED EXIT
 ENCLOSURES. THE SECOND FLOOR IS TOO LARGE TO BE
 CONSIDERED A MEZZANINE WHEREBY AN OPEN EXIT ACCESS
 STAIR WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE. FOR STAIR #112, THE ENTIRE
 AREA ON THE LEVEL OF DISCHARGE SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM
 AREAS BELOW BY A 1-HOUR FIRE RESISTANCE RATING PER
 SECTION 7.7.2.6 (NFPA 101). INDICATE IF THE EXISTING
 STAIR (NIC) DISCHARGES TO THE EXTERIOR OR INTERIOR OF
 THE BUILDING.
  
 THE SOUTH WALL OF MAIN DINING #201 IS INDICATED AS A
 1-HOUR WALL. ALL THE OTHER WALLS AND FLOOR ARE RATED AT
 TWO-HOURS. INDICATE IF THE 1-HOUR WALL WILL BE UPGRADED
 TO A TWO-HOUR WALL.
