 THE APPRAISED VALUE OF THE STRUCTURE PRIOR TO THE START
 OF THE INITIAL REPAIR OR IMPROVEMENT, OR IN THE CASE OF
 DAMAGE, THE VALUE OF THE STRUCTURE PRIOR TO THE DAMAGE
 OCCURRING. FOR THE

 PURPOSES OF THIS DEFINITION, "SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT"
 IS CONSIDERED TO OCCUR WHEN THE FIRST ALTERATION OF ANY

 BUILDING COMMENCES, WHETHER OR NOT THAT ALTERATION
 AFFECTS THE EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS OF THE STRUCTURE. THE
 TERM "SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT" DOES NOT, HOWEVER,
 INCLUDE ANY IMPROVEMENT OF A STRUCTURE TO COMPLY WITH
 EXISTING HEALTH, SANITARY, OR SAFETY CODES WHICH ARE
 SOLELY NECESSARY TO ENSURE SAFE LIVING CONDITIONS.
  
 PLEASE REVIEW SHEET C-1 AND THE FLOOR ELEVATION OF THE
 EXISTING LIFT STATION AND THE LISTED REQUIREMENTS FOR
 SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT, INDICATE HOW THE STRUCTURE
 WILL COME INTO COMPLIANCE BY EITHER FLOOD PROOFING OR
 CHANGING THE FINISH FLOOR ELEVATION. THIS WILL ALSO BE
 REQUIRED FOR THE GENERATOR PAD FOUND ON SHEET C-2.

 MARCH 31, 2010. ALTHOUGH THE OLD VERSION OF THE FORM IS
 NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR DISTRIBUTION, EXISTING COPIES
 MAY BE USED UNTIL MARCH 31, 2010. ELEVATIONS CERTIFIED
 ON OR AFTER APRIL 1, 2010, MUST BE SUBMITTED ON THE NEW
