 SHEATHING IS USED, SHEATHING BOARDS
 SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 1 INCH X 4
 INCHES (25 MM X 102 MM) NOMINAL
 DIMENSIONS AND SHALL BE SPACED ON
 CENTERS EQUAL TO THE WEATHER EXPOSURE
 TO COINCIDE WITH THE PLACEMENT OF
 FASTENERS.WHERE 1-INCH X 4-INCH (25
 MM X 102 MM) SPACED SHEATHING IS
 INSTALLED AT 10 INCHES (254 MM) ON
 CENTER, ADDITIONAL 1-INCH X 4-INCH (25
 MM X 102 MM) BOARDS SHALL BE
 INSTALLED BETWEEN THE SHEATHING
 BOARDS.
  
 IN REVIEWING THIS ROOFING PERMIT USING
 THE EXISTING SPACED SHEATHING, 1X6 WITH
 A SPACE OF APPROX 3" THE BUILDING
 OFFICIAL GAVE THREE OPTIONSFOR ACHIEVING
 CODE COMPLIANCE:
  
 1)UNDER ALTERNATE METHODS AND MATERIALS
 THE ABOVE MENTIONED SPACED SHEATHING CAN
 BE USED, PROVIDED THAT AN ENGINEER WILL
 PROVIDE CALCULATIONS OF HOW THE ROOF
 DIAPHRAM CAN BE MET USING THIS METHOD.
  
 2) IF SPACED SHEATHING IS TO BE LEFT IN
 PLACE & SHEATHING IS TO BE APPLIED
 DIRECTLY OVER THE 1X6. FIRST 5/8"
 PLYWOOD OR STRUCTURAL PANELS IS THE
 MINIMUM THICKNESS TO BRING THE ROOF UP
 TO MEET THE CURRENT CODE. SECOND AN
 ENGINEER WILL HAVE TO CALCULATE THE
 LENGHT AND SPACING OF FASTENERS, AND
 ALSO EVALUATE IF BLOCKING WILL BE
 REQUIRED OVER THE TRUSS TO CREATE SOLID
 BACKING FOR THE SHEATHING NAILING.
  
 3) THE THIRD OPTION WILL BE TO REMOVE
 THE SPACED SHEATHING TOTALY & REPLACE
 WITH 5/8" CDX PLYWOOD.
