 ORIGINAL COMMENT:
 1. FBC R 301, PROVIDE SIMPSON PRODUCT APPROVAL FOR THE
 H8 STRAP PROPOSED.
  
 RESPONSE:
 PLEASE COORDINATE WITH ITEM #2 BELOW. THE ENGINEER
 NEEDS TO REVISE THE SPECIFIED CONNECTOR.
  
  
 ORIGINAL COMMENT.
 2. THE ENGINEER'S LETTER STATES "PLEASE ACCEPT THIS
 LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENTS
 FOR THE PROPERTY OWNER TO MEET CURRENT BUILDING CODES".
 PLEASE REVISE TO BE MORE SPECIFIC (ADDRESS ROOF UPLIFT
 SUPPORT ONLY, SPECIFY BUILDING CODE).
  
 RESPONSE:
 ANDRE H. THOMAS, P.E. LETTER NEEDS TO BE REVISED AGAIN
 BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING:
  
 A) BASED ON SIMPSON PRODUCT APPROVAL SUBMITTED. THE
 SIMPSON H8 STRAP IS DESIGNED FOR WOOD TO WOOD
 CONNECTIONS. ACCORDING TO CITY RECORDS AND PALM BEACH
 COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS
 HOUSE IS CONCRETE BLOCK WALL WITH STUCCO NOT WOOD FRAME
 CONSTRUCTION. THEREFORE, ENGINEER NEEDS TO REVISE THE
 CONNECTOR. NEED TO SPECIFY A CONNECTOR THAT IS SUITABLE
 FOR THE EXISTING CONDITIONS. OR ENGINEER TO PROVIDE
 COMPLETE DETAILS AND ENGINEERING ANALYSIS SHOWING HOW
 THE H8 CONNECTOR WILL WORK (SEC. 107.2.1.2 CITY
 AMENDMENTS). NOTE: PLEASE DON'T SPECIFY "OR EQUIVALENT"
 WHEN SPECIFYING AN SPECIFIC CONNECTOR. THIS IS NOT
 ALLOWED BY SEC. 107.2.1 CITY AMENDMENTS.
  
 CITY AMENDMENTS SEC. 107.2.1: INFORMATION ON
 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS SHALL BE
 DIMENSIONED AND DRAWN UPON SUITABLE MATERIAL.
 ELECTRONIC MEDIA DOCUMENTS SHALL BE
 SUBMITTED WHEN APPROVED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL.
 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS SHALL BE OF SUFFICIENT
 CLARITY TO INDICATE THE LOCATION, NATURE AND EXTENT OF
 THE WORK PROPOSED AND SHOW IN DETAIL
 THAT IT WILL CONFORM TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CODE AND
 RELEVANT LAWS, ORDINANCES, RULES AND
 REGULATIONS, AS DETERMINED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL.
 SUCH DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS SHALL
 CONTAIN INFORMATION, IN THE FORM OF NOTES OR OTHERWISE,
 AS TO THE QUALITY OF MATERIALS, WHERE
 QUALITY IS ESSENTIAL TO CONFORMITY WITH THE TECHNICAL
 CODES. SUCH INFORMATION SHALL BE SPECIFIC,
 AND THE TECHNICAL CODES SHALL NOT BE CITED AS A WHOLE
 OR IN PART, NOR SHALL THE TERM "LEGAL" OR
 ITS EQUIVALENT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR SPECIFIC
 INFORMATION. ALL INFORMATION, DRAWINGS,
 SPECIFICATIONS AND ACCOMPANYING DATA SHALL BEAR THE
 NAME AND SIGNATURE OF THE PERSON
 RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESIGN. (SEE ALSO SECTION 107.3.5).
  
 B) THE ENGINEER'S LETTER IS TOO GENERAL. ENGINEER NEEDS
 TO PROVIDE SITE SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT THIS
 PROJECT. IDENTIFY WHAT ARE THE UPLIFT LOADS THAT NEED
 TO BE MET IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT BUILDING
 CODE REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE DO NOT CITE THE CODE AS A
 WHOLE OR IN PART (SEE SEC. 107.2.1 CITY AMENDMENTS).
 PROVIDE THE SITE SPECIFIC CALCULATIONS BASED ON THE
 TABLE REFERENCED ON THE LETTER SUBMITTED. SEC.
 107.2.1.2 CITY AMENDMENTS.
  
 CITY AMENDMENTS SEC. 107.2.1.2 ADDITIONAL DATA. THE
 BUILDING OFFICIAL MAY REQUIRE DETAILS, COMPUTATIONS,
 STRESS DIAGRAMS, AND OTHER DATA NECESSARY TO DESCRIBE
 THE CONSTRUCTION OR
 INSTALLATION AND THE BASIS OF CALCULATIONS. ALL
 DRAWINGS, SPECIFICATIONS AND
 ACCOMPANYING DATA REQUIRED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL TO
 BE PREPARED BY AN ARCHITECT
 OR ENGINEER SHALL BE AFFIXED WITH THEIR OFFICIAL SEAL,
 SIGNATURE AND DATE AS STATE LAW
 REQUIRES.
  
 C) ENGINEER TO BE SPECIFIC WITH THE CURRENT BUILDING
 CODE. SPECIFY THE CURRENT CODE EDITION. THE CURRENT
 BUILDING CODE ADOPTED BY THE CITY OF WEST PALM BEACH IS
 THE FBC SIXTH EDITION (2017).

 3. THE CONTRACTOR'S PLAN DOES NOT PROPOSE TO INSTALL
 STRAPS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE ROOF. ENGINEER IS TO DO A
 SHOP DRAWING REVIEW OF THE PLAN AND TO PROVIDE
 EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS PORTION IS NOT BEING DONE.
  
 RESPONSE:
 ENGINEER TO CLEARLY INDICATE IF THE HURRICANE STRAPS
 ARE FOR ENTIRE HOUSE OR FOR SOME AREAS ONLY. SEC.
 107.2.1 CITY AMENDMENTS.
  
 NEW COMMENT:
 BASED ON THE PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK, THE VALUATION
 DECLARED IN THE PERMIT APPLICATION IS TOO LOW.
 VALUATION TO INCLUDE ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, CONTRACTOR'S
 OVERHEAD AND PROFIT AND DESIGN PROFESSIONAL FEES AS
 REQUIRED BY SEC. 109.3 CITY AMENDMENTS. UPDATE
 VALUATION OR PROVIDE COPY OF SIGNED CONTRACTS AND
 INCLUDE DESIGN PROFESSIONAL FEES.
  
 PLEASE NOTE THAT SUBMITTAL OF ADDITIONAL AND/OR REVISED
 MATERIALS MAY RESULT IN NEW PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS.
