 REVIEW COMMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT
  
 GENERAL: NO CIVIL DRAWINGS SUBMITTED SHOWING PAVING,
 FIRE LANE MARKINGS, WATER UTILITIES, FIRE HYDRANT
 LOCATIONS, FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTIONS, ETC.
  
 GENERAL: PER SECTION 18.2.3.5.3 (NFPA 1), FIRE LANES
 SHALL BE MARKED WITH FREESTANDING SIGNS READING, "FIRE
 LANE - NO PARKING BY ORDER OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT."
 SIGNS SHALL BE 12" X 18" WITH A WHITE BACKGROUND AND
 RED LETTERS AND SHALL BE A MAXIMUM OF SEVEN FEET IN
 HEIGHT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SIGN. SIGNS SHALL BE WITHIN
 SIGHT OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW AND BE SPACED A MAXIMUM OF 60
 FEET APART.
  
 GENERAL: PROVIDE AN EXTERIOR KEY SAFE TO ALLOW
 EMERGENCY RESPONDERS NON-FORCIBLE ENTRY INTO THE
 BUILDING DURING NON-BUSINESS HOURS. A KEY SAFE CAN BE
 ORDERED FROM WWW.KNOXBOX.COM.
  
 GENERAL: PER SECTION 8.3.2.4, EACH FIRE BARRIER SHALL
 BE PERMANENTLY IDENTIFIED WITH SIGNS OR STENCILING
 READING FIRE BARRIER-PROTECT ALL OPENINGS. CHARACTERS
 SHALL BE AT LEAST 4-INCHES IN HEIGHT AND HALF-INCH IN
 WIDTH. IDENTIFICATION SHALL BE SPACED NOT MORE THAN 15
 FEET ON CENTER.
  
 SHEET LS1.1 & LS1.2: STAIR #1 APPEARS TO BE A
 COMBINATION OF A "COMMUNICATING SPACE" AND A
 "CONVENIENCE OPENING"; HOWEVER, THE DESIGN DOES NOT
 CONFORM TO ALL THE REQUIREMENTS FOR EITHER DESIGN. FOR
 INSTANCE A CONVENIECE OPENING IS NOT PERMITTED TO SERVE
 AS A MEANS OF EGRESS (DRAWING SHOWS EXIT SIGNS
 UTILIZING THIS STAIR) AND A COMMUNICATING SPACE IS
 REQUIRED TO BE OPEN AND UNOBSTRUCTED SUCH THAT A FIRE
 IN ANY PART OF THE SPACE WILL BE OBVIOUS TO THE
 OCCUPANTS. THE TOP OF THE STAIR/CONVENIENCE OPENING IS
 ENCLOSED THEREFORE OCCUPANTS ON THE SECOND FLOOR WOULD
 NOT SEE, FEEL OR SMELL THE EFFECTS OF FIRE UNTIL THEY
 OPENED THE DOOR...THIS DESIGN COULD ALSO RESULT IN VAST
 AMOUNTS OF TOXIC SMOKE COMPILING AT THE TOP OF THE
 EGRESS STAIR. PLEASE CLARIFY THE INTENT OF STAIR #1 BY
 READING NFPA 101 SECTIONS 8.6.6 (COMMUNICATING SPACE)
 AND 8.6.8 (CONVENIENCE OPENINGS).
  
 SHEET LS1.1: PROVIDE FIRE SPRINKLER DRAFT STOPS AROUND
 FLOOR OPENING OF STAIR #1. DRAFT STOPS SHALL BE
 NON-COMBUSTIBLE AND AT LEAST 18-INCHES DEEP. SPRINKLERS
 SHALL FORM A WATER CURTAIN (6 FOOT SPACING) AROUND THE
 FLOOR OPENING.
  
 SHEET A3.1: PER SECTION 10.12.1.2 (NFPA 1), PROVIDE
 BUILDING ADDRESS VISIBLE FROM THE STREET. NUMBERS SHALL
 BE ATTACHED TO THE BUILDING AND BE AT LEAST SIX-INCHES
 IN HEIGHT WITH 1-INCH STROKE AND SHALL CONTRAST THE
 BACKGROUND.
  
 SHEET FS0.1: NO WATER FLOW DATA SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
  
 SHEET FS0.1: PROVIDE CLOSELY SPACED SPRINKLERS/WATER
 CURTAIN AROUND THE FLOOR OPENING FOR STAIR #1.
  
 SHEET FS0.1: STORAGE, MECHANICAL, LABORATORIES AND
 KITCHEN SPACES SHOULD NOT BE CLASSIFIED AS LIGHT
 HAZARD.
  
 SHEET E3.1: COULD NOT LOCATE ANY SMOKE DETECTORS TO
 RELEASE THE MAGNETIC DOOR HOLDERS.
  
 SHEET E3.1: PROVIDE A FIRE ALARM MICROPHONE (NEAR THE
 ANNUNCIATOR PANEL) TO ALLOW VOICE MESSAGING.
  
 SHEET E3.2: A SMOKE DETECTOR SHOULD NOT BE LOCATED AT
 THE TOP OF THE ELEVATOR HOISTWAY.
  
 SHEET E4.1: PLANS INDICATE SECURITY CAMERAS LOCATED IN
 THE EXIT STAIRS. ONLY EQUIPMENT ESSENTIAL TO THE
 FUNCTION OF THE STAIRS ARE PERMITTED WITHIN THE EXIT
 ENCLOSURE.
  
 SHEET E5.3: PLANS DO NOT INDICATE THE METHOD (HEAT
 DETECTOR/FLOW SWITCH WITHOUT TIME DELAY) USED TO SHUNT
 TRIP POWER TO THE ELEVATOR IN THE EVENT AN AUTOMATIC
 SPRINKLER ACTIVATES IN THE ELEVATOR MACHINE ROOM.
