 STAIR FLIGHT. WHERE HANDRAILS ARE NOT CONTINUOUS
 BETWEEN FLIGHTS, THE HANDRAILS SHALL EXTEND
 HORIZONTALLY AT LEAST 12 INCHES BEYOND THE TOP RISER
 AND CONTINUE TO SLOPE FOR THE DEPTH OF ONE TREAD BEYOND

 PREVIOUS REVIEW). PLEASE REVISE HANDRAILS AT THE
 FOLLOWING LOCATIONS (AND CHECK ALL FOR COMPLIANCE):
  
 A. LS1, PROPOSED STAIR CORRIDOR, TOP LEFT OF FLOOR
 PLAN, ONE HANDRAIL IS MISSING THE EXTENSION AT THE TOP.
  
 B. LS1, PROPOSED ROOF TOP LIFE SAFETY PLAN, TOP LEFT,
 NO EXTENSION ON ONE SIDE OF THE HAND RAIL, TOP. THIS
 EXTENSION WILL BLOCK THE DOOR.
  
 C. LS1, PROPOSED STAIR CORRIDOR, MIDDLE SECTION OF
 STAIR AT LANDING, BY THE 48? DOOR, NO EXTENSION AT
 BOTTOM OF STAIR RUN WHERE THE STAIR CHANGES DIRECTION;
 AS DRAWN, HANDRAIL TO THE INSIDE ENDS BEFORE THE END OF
 THE LAST TREAD.

 REVISED TO DECLARE TYPE IIIA, RESPONSE LETTER STATES
 THIS IS TYPE IIIB. PLEASE CONFIRM BUILDING TYPE.

 BE CONTINUOUS TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DECK ABOVE,
 FBC707.4, 707.5. ARCHITECT?S RESPONSE STATED THAT FIRE
 RESISTANCE CONTINUITY REQUIREMENTS WERE STATED ON NTS.
 SEE M2, DUCTWORK SHOWN ABOVE THE STAIRS AND DUCTWORK
 SHOWN IN THE ELEVATOR LOBBY AREA. THE EXIT TERMINATES
 AT THE EXIT DISCHARGE, WHICH WOULD BE THE EXTERIOR
 DOOR, DUCT IS SHOWN AT THE STAIRWAY DOOR.
  
 SHEET A2 SPECIFIES FIRE RATED PARTITIONS FOR THE
 STAIRS. SEE FBC1019.1, FIRE BARRIERS REQUIRED IN
 ACCORDANCE WITH FBC706, NOT FIRE PARTITIONS FBC708. THE
 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS DIFFER, AND PARTITIONS ARE
 LESS STRINGENT THAN BARRIERS. PLEASE CLARIFY COMPLIANCE
 WITH THE REQUIREMENTS AS A FIRE BARRIER.
  
 FOR INSTANCE, SEE B A12. WALLS W1, W6 SHOW THE WALL
 TERMINATING AT THE CEILING ABOVE RATHER THAN AT THE
 ROOF DECK ABOVE. A A12 ALSO SHOWS THE RATED WALL W6
 ENDING AT A CEILING, RATHER THAN EXTENDING UP TO THE
 BOTTOM OF THE ROOF DECK. IT ALSO SHOWS A 1 HOUR FIRE
 RATED CEILING ABOVE THE STAIR, NOT CLEAR HOW THIS
 COMPLIES WITH THE REQUIREMENT FOR FIRE RATING TO BE
 CONTINUOUS TO THE ROOF DECK OR FLOOR/CEILING ASSEMBLY
 ABOVE. SEE ALSO A14.
  
 AS STRUCTURALS ARE NOT A PART OF THIS PERMIT, AND THE
 RENOVATION IS SOMEWHAT COMPLEX, IT IS DIFFICULT TO
 DETERMINE EXACT CONSTRUCTION BASED ON THE INFORMATION
 PROVIDED. THE WALLS ARE SPECIFIED AS RATED WALLS,
 STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS RATED, BUT NOTE THE REQUIREMENT FOR
 THE SUPPORTING CONSTRUCTION TO BE RATED AS WELL,
 INCLUDING EXISTING CONSTRUCTION (VERTICAL EXITS).
 ARCHITECT?S RESPONSE STATES THAT THE WALLS ARE
 CONTINUOUS, THE PLANS STATE THEY ARE CONTINUOUS, BUT
 THE DETAILS PROVIDED DO NOT SHOW CONTINUOUS WALLS.
 PLEASE REVISE DETAILS TO CLEARLY SHOW COMPLIANCE WITH
 FBC707.4, 707.5, AND REVISE NOTES WHICH SPECIFY FIRE
 PARTITIONS TO SPECIFY FIRE BARRIERS AS REQUIRED BY
 FBC1019.1. ALSO COORDINATE WITH MECHANICAL ENGINEER;
 CLARIFY DUCTS IN THE OPEN SPACE ABOVE STAIRS, WHEN
 STAIR WALLS SHOULD EXTEND TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ROOF
 DECK; THERE SHOULD NOT BE AN OPEN SPACE. IF NECESSARY,
 PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SECTION DETAILS TO SHOW COMPLIANCE.

 IN THE SAME ENCLOSURE. THIS STAIR IS LABELED A "MEANS
 OF EGRESS STAIR". TWO EXITS ARE REQUIRED FROM THIS
 SPACE, FBC1018.1, NOT MEANS OF EGRESS. EXITS SHALL BE
 CONTINUOUS, FBC1018.3. VERTICAL EXIT ENCLOSURE SHALL
 NOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN MEANS OF EGRESS,
