 REPONSE LETTER IS FROM THE SURVEYOR. AS SURVEYORS ARE
 NOT LICENSED TO DO DESIGN WORK, OR TO DO INSTALLATIONS,
 PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT I CONSIDER "WHAT IF SCENARIOS"
 DESIGN WORK WHICH SHOULD BE OVERSEEN BY AN ARCHITECT OR
 AN ENGINEER KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT LIFE SAFETY AND FLOOD
 LOAD RESISTANCE. IT WOULD BE MORE APPROPRIATE FOR THE
 LICENSED ENGINEER OR THE LICENSED CONTRACTOR TO BE
 DEALING WITH THESE CODE ISSUES. FAILURE TO UTILIZE THE
 PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE LICENSED TO DO THIS TYPE OF
 DESIGN HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DELAYED THIS PROJECT. AT THIS
 POINT I CONSIDER THE CODE ISSUES ALMOST RESOLVED. FOR
 FUTURE COMMERCIAL PROJECTS, PLEASE HAVE A KNOWLEDGEABLE
 DESIGN PROFESSIONAL INVOLVED FROM THE BEGINNING TO
 AVOID RISK TO THE OCCUPANTS.
  
 RESPONSE LETTER STATES THAT THE PRODUCT HAS BEEN
 TESTED. THIS IS NOT THE CASE, BUT THIS ISSUE WILL BE
 RESOLVED UPON APPROVAL OF THE INSPECTION LETTER. THE
 MANUFACTURER UNDERSTANDS THE ISSUES AND HAS NOT ONLY
 AGREED THAT THE REQUIREMENT IS APPROPRIATE, BUT IS
 CONSIDERING SUGGESTING THIS FOR OTHER JOBS WITH A
 SIMILAR INSTALLATION.

 SEVERAL OF THE VENT LOCATIONS APPEAR TO BE LOCATED IN
 FIRE-RESISTANT RATED WALLS OF STAIR TOWERS, STORAGE
 ROOMS AND TRASH ROOMS ETC. UNPROTECTED OR NON-FIRE
 RATED OPENINGS AND PENETRATIONS ARE NOT PERMITTED BY
 THE FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY CODES AS THIS WILL ALLOW
 PASSAGE OF HEAT AND SMOKE.
  
 PER NFPA 101 SECTION 7.1.3.2.1, PENETRATIONS INTO, AND
 OPENINGS THROUGH, AN EXIT ENCLOSURE ASSEMBLY SHALL BE
 LIMITED TO DOOR ASSEMBLIES FROM NORMALLY OCCUPIED
 SPACES AND CORRIDORS, REQUIRED EXIT DOOR OPENINGS,
 ELECTRICAL CONDUIT SERVING THE EXIT ENCLOSURE, DUCTWORK
 AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR INDEPENDENT STAIR
 PRESSURIZATION, WATER OR STEAM PIPING NECESSARY FOR THE
 HEATING OR COOLING OF THE EXIT ENCLOSURE, SPRINKLER
 PIPING, STANDPIPES, AND PENETRATIONS FOR FIRE ALARM
 CIRCUITS, WHERE THE CIRCUITS ARE INSTALLED IN METAL
 CONDUIT AND THE PENETRATIONS ARE PROTECTED.
